We first had to drill a hole on our shrimp tank cover because shrimp need oxygen to survive. Then, we got 2 strips of sticky foam and we had to stick it to our cover for our tank. Third, we had to gather all of our opae`ula dollars and redeem them for actual shrimp! I had 14 shrimp but that is still a lot. It was very cool how we emptied the shrimp out of the net and into the tank and how the shrimp were still alive. We finally had all of the accessories, shrimp, and gravel and it was super cool how we had a shrimp habitat.
To add the artificial plant, we first had to take the rock out of the tank. Then we had to let it dry in the sun. Next, we chose a plant short or big and we had to choose a spot on the rock too. Then, we hot glued the plant into the desired spot on the rock. Fourth, we had to carefully insert the rock into the habitat. Lastly, we put the shrimp habitat on the table inside the room.
We prepared our brackish water (salt and fresh water) for our opae`ula habitat. We first got the decomposers into a tiny teaspoon and put it into our opae`ula habitat. Then, we had to choose a rock to put into our habitat. Third, we had to fill up the vases one full and one halfway because one full and one half is three half and that could be half water for each of our vases. Then, we sprinkled salt into our bucket that held our water. Fifth, we had to mix up the salt water and fresh water to make brackish water. Sixth, we had to use the hydrometer to see how much salt and water we have to put in and we had to do the gravity 1.006. Lastly, we had to equal the water to our vases and we put it in the water.
Today we prepared the gravel for our shrimp tank. We first got the tank and filled up the tank with gravel only a little bit. Then, we got all of the gravel tanks and filled the carton. Third, we filled the carton only about one fifth the way with water. After that was done, we had to mix it around using our hands and it was fun. Fifth, we had to carefully emptied the carton that had the mixed water and we had to do that process three more times! Lastly when all of that was done, we had to even out the gravel into our three tanks. It was really fun and cool how we prepared the gravel for our shrimp tank!
These are the shrimp that we have to take home. We can take home a maximum of fifteen shrimp with a type of paper money we have to earn if we are on task and if we finish typing assessments. We are going to need many materials such as rocks, gravel, food for the shrimp (opae`ula), the container, the container lid, and many more items that are going to be important. The shrimp are usually perched on the rocks and some of them are swimming around in the big tank. This picture is a small portion of a giant tank filled with opae`ula. To take care of the shrimp, we have to keep the shrimp in a room temperature place, has to be fed once every two days, and has to be cared for. The rocks inside this tank are different colors such as yellow, green, brown, black, and red. Some rocks have different colors mixed into each other and they can be reddish yellow and blackish yellow.
