It's been my seventh month with my opae`ula. Almost a year! My opae`ula are still doing fine, and I still feed them twice or three times a week. I also use the same box of toothpicks, and use the same food. I didn't have to re-fill the tank yet, but I probably will have to soon. There's a lot of green spirulina near the top of my tank, and I want to clean that part, but whenever I do, the paper always touches the water, and I can't clean it... None are pregnant, and I hope some are soon because I want to have more shrimp so that my family would grow to a bigger family and would expand quickly. All of my shrimp are still alive, and I'm happy that they are. Here is a picture of the spirulina that is near the cap. This is February's update, and I'll see you in March!
It has been my sixth month with my opae`ula. They are still doing great and are all red. None got pregnant and had babies though. I feed them every couple days now and I hope that they are not hungry. None of my shrimp died so I'm happy about that and I do hope that none of them do. My toothpicks and my spirulina package is good and I try to remember to feed them every couple days. This is my post for January, see you next time for February!
So far, my opae`ula are doing good. They are eating the spirulina that I give them and usually eat it all. They are all bright red except for one, which is clear. I hope that I can get pregnant opae`ula so that I can get more shrimp and have a bigger population of it. I'm slowly running out of spirulina but I have enough for this month. They are usually active and swimming around but some keep going on the rocks and staying there until the next day, when they finally move. I don't really have creative titles, but I will try to soon:).
Sorry for the late update, but I took some more pictures and here they are. My opae`ula are doing pretty good and I think that I took care of them pretty well. They are all bright red and dark red so I think that is better. None of my opae`ula are going to have babies though. I really hope that even one shrimp can get pregnant so they can have more babies and my population of shrimp will grow. Anyway, this is my update for November, and see you in Christmas! :) All of my opae`ula are still alive and they are active. I feed them once every two days and usually during night or in the afternoons because I have school and other teams and clubs. I enjoy feeding my opae`ula because they always swim up to the water and eat the food. My shrimp are all alive and happily none died. I still don't see any shrimp that are about to have babies or pregnant.
They have been very active and moving around a lot. Sadly, none of my opae`ula have babies yet. None of them died yet too :)! This me feeding them and they all start going up at the same time. My mom got a whole new box of flat toothpicks so I don't have to worry about that. I still feed them everyday and everytime I feed them, I hope that one of the opae`ula have babies so they can multiply.
My first month is going great! I always watch them every single day and I feed them too. No algae has grown on the glass though. None of them had died yet and they are doing great. The first picture is of the opae`ula swimming around and the second picture is one of the shrimp are resting on the artificial plant. They also rest on the rocks too. We made an iMovie video of how to make an opae`ula habitat. It tells about how to make a habitat, how we put in the shrimp, and many more. Hopefully this video will teach you about how to make an opae`la habitat. Enjoy!
We have finally brought our shrimp home and I fed it and it was super awesome! I kept it on the edge of my desk because not much sunlight go there. I liked how the shrimp could survive during the car. I hope none of the shrimp die and I would like it if they can breed to make more opae`ula. Feeding and taking care of the shrimp was the most important thing that I had to know. We have to feed the opae`ula spirulina. Spirulina is basically dried algae and it is a small thin powder that we can use to feed the opae`ula. We all got toothpicks and we had to use those toothpicks to scoop out a very tiny amount daily. To take care of the shrimp, we have to put it in a shady place because if we keep it in a place that has direct sunlight, the water will heat up and the shrimp will die. The tank will also grow some algae because of the florescent light in our homes. The algae will most likely be brown because the green algae is from sunlight. We have to fill the tanks if the water evaporates because the salt will just stay and water will evaporate so we have to add room temperature water if the tank water evaporates.
