Today I went home and fed my Opae`ula I stabbed the toothpick in and lightly hit the top of the tank in around 30 minutes all 13 opae`ula were eating. And if you did not see I have 13 Opae`ula. If you have a Opae`ula tank you should never put it in direct sunlight not even for a little while. I have checked and there are no eggs yet I will keep track. But until my next post I will blog later.
today I brought home my shrimp and we got our Spirrulina and a tooth pick. we have done all of the preparing just for this great moment. the way we feed them is using a toothpick and dip and hit on the edge of the tank.
Today is the day when every thing is complete and we got our opae`ula. Today is also the day when we have our caps on. We have done every single thing that we need to do to have the habitat complete. First we got the sticky foam and put it around the cap. Then when the cap was done we got our shrimp plus 5 extra I had 8 and the extra gave me 13. Mr David gave us our shrimp by using a net.
Today we made brackish water which is a less salty salt water and we put old gravel to have bacteria. Then we put a rock in the gravel so we can put growing algae. After we started making the water so first we got the water we needed. After getting the water we mixed it to the salt and used the hydrometer to make sure we have the right amount of salt. Then we put the water in the habitat. lastly we put the habitat in the garden. Today we put the artificial tree in our new tanks. First we got our rocks and let them dry. After letting the rocks dry we picked our grass. After picking our grass we picked were the grass should be on our rock. Then we got the grassed glued and in went on the position. The reason why we have the plant is so when we feed them we give them something to be on.
Today we washed the gravel and put it in the tank we each have. First we got the gravel and measured it at our containers then we poured the sand in. after pouring sand in we added water and mixed the sand with water to rinse and take the dust off. then we poured water out and rinsed it again. then we got the sand back in. Your tank filled with clean gravel has finished for today. The first observation of the Opae`ula is that they like to be on the rocks. An observation is that the shrimp is from the big island or Hawaii island. The food the Opae`ula or shrimp eat is Spuralina. Opae`ula is two words together in Hawaiian definition opae is shrimp and ula is red so it means red shrimp. when I observed them the shrimp ate upside down. the shrimp is brought by plane not boat. by the end of summer school we would be able to take some home.
