My opea`ula are actually doing great and healthy. You might not see all of the shrimp because some are camouflaging/ blending in with the rock. I now have one more than I used to have so I still kind of have eleven opea`ula. Well, bloging next month so keep reading about my Opea`ula Blog!
My Opea`ula are doing fine for now. Right now I have 11 shrimp. I have eleven because two Opea`ula are female so they had babies. So I am going to guess there are nine males or less.
Today we made are covers. The way we made our covers is our teacher gave us two strips of foam. On one side it was sticky and on the other side it was not sticky. We put the strips on the cover and then we put it buy our habitat. Now for the shrimp.
Today we added a plant to our habitat. The way we did it is take the rock out of it's habitat and let it dry a bit because if it completely dries, it will start to loose it's bacteria. Then, we hot glued the fake plant to the rock. After that, we started making the movie. The movie is about how we made the habitat. First, we selected pictures for our movie. Next, we added the text. Then, we added music. The music that we chose was
Did you know fresh water has a specific gravity of 1.000? Well guess what, sea water has a specific gravity of 1.024! The Opae`ula came in water with a specific gravity of 1.004. We made the water a specific gravity of 1.006 to 1.008! We also new that the Opae`ula needed bacteria so, we added a rock with bacteria. The rocks came from the pond so they had bacteria already. Now for the steps. First, we put the salt in the bucket and mixed it. Then, we measured the hydrometer and got a specific gravity of 1.008. After, we poured the water into our tanks' which had to go over our rocks. That is my completed tank.
The first thing we did was scoop the gravel into the bucket. We scooped 15 tablespoons in total. Then we put water in the bucket. We started to mix water with the gravel because the gravel was a little dusty. After mixing the gravel, we poured the water out the water and kept the gravel in the bucket. Then we scooped five scoops of gravel into each tank. That is how we prepared the gravel.
The Opae`ula are small. We have learned that Opae` means shrimp and ula means red. In English, you would say "red shrimp". I also know that these shrimp came from the big island. We have a tank with 1,000 shrimp. You can't see all shrimp in the picture because
