Today we made our brackish water and put in our rock. First, we got our cinder and put a little of it in our Opae`ula container. Next, we got to choose our rock to put in the Opae`ula container. Then, we made the salt water and used the hydrometer to check the water and if it has the right amount of water and the right amount of salt so it has to be 1.006 for our Opae`ula. Last, we scoped the salt water and put it in our container we put the water out in the sun so it makes its own algae. So that was how we made our brackish water for our opae`ula.
Today we prepared the gravel for the Opae`ula. First, we got the vase. Then we poured the gravel in the jar. We also put the gravel in the bucket. We had some extra gravel so we poured it back in the bag Next we rinsed the gravel several times then we poured the water out of the bucket . After we put the gravel back in the vase. Last we put water in the vase and poured the water out.
The Opae`ula we have come from the Big island. The Opae` ula eat food called Spirulina and it is green powder for shrimp to eat or they eat the algae from the rock. In several weeks we will make our habitat for our Opae`ula and we get to take it home at the end of summer school. Opae`ula means red shrimp(Opae means shrimp and ula means red). The temperature of the Opae ula has to be warm unless they will die because if it is too cold or too hot they will die. The Opae`ula can be white and pink when they are scared
