My shrimp has been doing nothing these last 2 months I have brought it home. Most off my shrimp just swim eat, and poop. None of my shrimp are white they have all changed to the color red. Some of my shrimp rarely eat I wonder why. Also i am very sorry i couldn't upload a picture it is just the download takes at least 4 hours to upload all the pictures. Maybe next time I will upload a picture. Well till next month I think my shrimp will change.
This is my first month with my shrimp. I still have only 14 shrimp. Some grew really fat because i accidentally fed it a lot. Some only eat a little bit and mostly stay onhe whole the rock like its sleeping the whole time.
Today I took my habitat home with me today. I left it near the window that has drapes so it will have sunlight and shade. I had 14 shrimp in my habitat and all of them are different colors. I feed them some food to eat but, they wouldn't eat the food I gave them. Now this habitat has a new home.
Today we learned how to take care of my shrimp. My teacher gave us a booklet for how to take care of our shrimp. The shrimp are very easy to take care of. Also the booklet tells us about its life cycle from a egg to an adult. In the booklet it tells you about all the things we have to do in order to keep the shrimp in their normal habitat that the shrimp are comfortable in. To feed the shrimp we had to put a very small amount of food in because if we put to much the shrimp will eat as much as they can and leave the rest of the food that they don't want to eat. Then the food will sink to the bottom of the tank and spoil. Also id we don't feed it right the tank could grow mold or the food could grow mold in the bag of food or in the tank. If the shrimp ate the mold they would die. Mold is the number 1 thing that kills shrimp so we have to be very careful if we are feeding the shrimp. After our teacher told us about how to feed and make sure the habitat is okay he gave us the food for the shrimp and the toothpick that we could use but also we could use something different but, that is similar to a tooth pick. Sometimes we would have to clean the tank if grows to much algae then we could use a toothbrush to clean the sides. The food we use for the shrimp is called Spirulina. To make sure the food doesn't spoil you could put it in the refrigerator.
Today we got our shrimp into our tank. We first made the covers for the containers. Our teachers gave us some kind of sticky foam to stick onto our covers. Each of us had to get two strips, to get the two strips we had to cut it out from the full length. Our teachers had to drill a hole into our covers because shrimp need oxygen to breath. Even if there is algae to produce the oxygen we would have to put it in the sun. But if we put it in the sun the water would get to hot for the shrimp to live in and the shrimp could die from the heat. So we had to drill a hole in our containers. Later we had to wait to be called up to redeem our shrimp from the shrimp dollars. Some people got 5 and others got up to 9 or less. After we were all finished our teachers told us what to bring in on Monday so we could bring it home and so we don't need our teachers help anymore.
Today we put in accessories in our habitat. First we had to take out our rocks from our habitat and dry the front of the rock. When it is all dry we pick out a fake plant the fake plant could of been tall or short depenting on your rock. Then we had to use the hot glue to glue it into a hole in a rock. After we hot glue the plant and leave the hot glue to dry we fnd our vases and carefully put the rock back into our habitat. Now we are done putting accessories in my habitat.
We selected and made our salt water today also since we didn't have any decomposers so Mr. Leong brought some of his gravel and since his gravel had decomposers in it we put a tiny bit of his in ours. There were tons of rocks to chose from. Some were really huge and some were small. I took a medium sized rock. After we put our rock in we went over to the bucket so we could make our salt water. First we filled the bucket with water. Then we put the salt into the the bucket. we stared siring it until all the salt chunks were gone. We checked our water to see if we needed more water or salt. We may have put to much salt so we had to put a lot more water. After we were done we poured our salt water in our containers. We were finished with our first part of the habitat.
We took the gravel and poured it into our container. The gravel is a mixture of cinder and black sand. When we poured it in the dust when into the air. So we had to wash the gravel at least 3 to 5 times because we didn't want the dust in our gravel. When the water was dirty we had to pour out the water and get fresh water to stir the gravel in. the water was really cold when we mixed the water and the gravel. Then we took our container and dumped the gravel into the the container. Some gravel stuck to the side but later we used water to wash the gravel to the side and to the bottom. So since there is water in the vase we had to pour out the water again until all the water was gone. Last of all when we were finished we put our containers in the back so it could dry also since the gravel was wet we also had to dry that too. When we put everything in the back to dry we were done. Now the first part of making the shrimp habitat is finished.
Look at those opea`ula eat all this food. There are hundreds of opea`ula in this tank eating their food. Looks like all those shrimp were hungry after they were shipped from the big island. They must of been hungry after that shipping. These shrimp are eating Spirulina powder. It looks like some kind of liquid but it is actually powder that they are eating. You can't see it in this picture but some shrimp are just resting on rocks that are on the bottom. Some are not even red! Maybe some shrimp did not eat enough food so its color would be bright red. Some shrimp are blurry in the picture because they swimming so fast they must have a lot of energy after eating some of the spirulina that are in their tank. Some are eating algae that formed in the tank and on the rocks!
